WILLIAM BROWN

William Brown has been a freelance illustrator and cartoonist since 1987. He lives in Takoma Park, Maryland with his wife and two children. He graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts, Department of Communication and Design in December 1986 (BFA). Before college he was a graphic artist working in Washington DC design studios, most notably Beveridge and Associates where he produced layouts for Smithsonian magazine.

His illustrations have appeared in numerous publications nation-wide, including The Wall Street Journal, Slate on-line magazine, USA Today Weekend, The Progressive, Newsday, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Los Angles Times, C-SPAN, and many others. A book of his cartoons, President Bill, A Graphic Epic was published in 1990 (Andrews and McMeel).

Book interviews include NPR's Weekend All Things Considered and The Diane Rehm Show. Lectures include one given at the National Archives in 1990 about his book and another in Warsaw in 1995 where Bill presented a seminar on freelance illustration for Polish graphic artists.

William’s medium is scratchboard/digital. His work has won awards and been accepted into the Illustrators Club of Washington, DC annual juried exhibitions since 1988.
